Dynamic First Lady (第一夫人)

Between the Mao Zedong era and today, the People's Republic of China has not had a dynamic First Lady.  Jiang Zemin's wife perhaps epitomizes this lack of outward sophistication.  She always looked like she just got off the late shift at the tractor factory.  (We do note, however, that her appearance may have been affected by ovarian cancer, from which she successfully and bravely fought!)

However, China's next First Lady is the talented, glamorous and beautiful Peng Liyuan (彭丽媛).  She is a renowned singer of folk music in China.  Her husband is Xi Jinping, the current Vice-President (fu zhuxi). Ceteris paribus, Mr. Xi will take over the Party and State reins from Hu Jintao in 2012 and 2013, respectively.  At last, a dynamic First Lady for a dynamic country in the 21st Century.  China has arrived.  Qi lai!
