As dear readers are aware, this Fairbank Report has severely criticized and ebulliently praised China over the years. After all, fairness is implied in our name. So here's an "aww story" from Shanghai, courtesy of http://www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?cid=1103&MainCatID=11&id=20131008000101 . Please note that no such effort can ever be expected from the police thugs in the USA.
The human link: Shanghai police protect tourists with body wall
If you walk to the Bund — the famous district decorated with European buildings and architecture from the old British and American settlements — you will notice two things: a scattered sea of tourists, and an orderly array of arm-linked police officers. When the light turns green, the officers stretch across the crosswalk on both sides, creating a human canal across which pedestrians are ferried. When the light turns red, they fold back to the sidewalk, reports the state-run Xinhua News Agency.
The officers apparently repeat the procedure all day, though they reportedly said that such extreme measures would not be necessary if visitors obeyed traffic laws. The city saw as many as 4 million visitors on the fourth day of the national vacation.
"This is just like when police officers escort me when crossing the street after school," said one elementary school student.
