Correcting Internet Rumours

Ming Qu's mother in Los Angeles (Source:  LA Times)

As we learn more about the two young USC scholars who were murdered by a ghetto thug last week, the story becomes even more tragic, if that's possible at all.

Miss Wu came from the interior province of Hunan, China.  She excelled academically throughout her school career, which landed her a spot at a Beijing university.  Her parents are of moderate means.  Her father is a retired military policeman and her mother a retired factory worker at a cotton/linen company.

Mr. Qu came from Jilin in China's northeast. He grew up in a rural area. He, too, excelled at school, which earned him a seat at a Beijing university.

Both were class prefects (class presidents) in middle and high schools.

Both were their parents' only children.  Ying and Ming had just begun to date one another when the ghetto thug in South Central Los Angeles took away their lives and all the promises that come with such high achievers.  They had booked airplane tickets for a May 14 return to China.  Ming died  was slain a day before his 24th birthday.

Yet the ghetto thug lives...
